What is Mitragyna Javanica?
Mitragyna Javanica (Kra Thum Na) is a supplement made from the dried leaves of the Kra Thum Na tree. It is an herb from the Mitragyna family, the same family to which Mitragyna Hirsuta (Kra Thum Khok) and Mitragyna Speciosa (Kratom) also belong. Mitragyna Javanica is versatile and can have different effects, depending on the dosage. In small amounts, it has a stimulating and soothing effect, which can help improve energy and promote a positive mood. At a higher dose, it has a calming and relaxing effect, which can help relieve tension and stress. The effects of Mitragyna Javanica are often compared to those of Kratom (Mitragyna Speciosa), but the herb tends to be less potent than Kratom. This makes it a good option for people looking for milder effects or who want to explore a variety of applications. Javanica is less strong than its cousins and more suitable for beginners.
How do you use Mitragyna Javanica?
Our Mitragyna Javanica comes in the form of a dried, coarsely cut herbal mixture of 50 grams. You can chew on these dried leaves for a mild stimulating and soothing effect. Our advice is to brew them as tea; this way, the effect is stronger and will last longer. Use 5 to 10 tablespoons per pot of hot water, let the tea steep for 5 to 20 minutes and then strain. The longer you allow the tea to steep, the stronger the flavour will be. This tea tastes bitter and earthy, similar to other herbs from the Mitragyna family, such as Kratom. Soften the taste with a little honey or lemon.
For optimal extraction of the active ingredients, it’s important not to let the water boil when you pour it over the herbs. Water of about 90°C is ideal: let boiled water cool for a minute or two before using it. A well-sealed teapot or mug with a lid helps to retain the volatile compounds during steeping.

Where does Mitragyna Javanica come from?
Mitragyna Javanica (Kra Thum Na) is a tropical plant that mainly occurs in the rainforests of Southeast Asia, particularly in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. It belongs to the Rubiaceae family, the same family as Mitragyna Speciosa (Kratom) and Mitragyna Hirsuta (Kra Thum Khok). The plant grows in the natural forests of these regions, where the tropical climate and rich soil are ideal for the development of this plant. Mitragyna Javanica is traditionally used in many of these areas to promote energy, improve mood and relieve pain. In Thailand, the tree is locally referred to as Kra Thum Na. The herb is sometimes confused with its close relative Mitragyna Speciosa (Kratom), but Mitragyna Javanica has milder effects and is often considered less potent. It has a stimulating effect at low doses and a calming effect at higher doses.
